Whether you’re a long-time customer or just discovering us for the first time, here’s a little more about the person behind J.J. Textile.
I’m Jurate, founder, designer and lover of all things countryside. I started this brand in 2012 with a vision of creating fun pieces that bring joy and a bit of character into people’s homes. Take a look through to find out more about me, how the business began and what inspires me.
my background
I studied textiles in Lithuania and Finland and spent years designing for other brands before founding J.J. Textile in 2012. What started as a one-woman project is now a family-run brand.
why wool?
Wool is the material I return to again and again. From my love of felting to the first company I worked for after graduating (who made wool blankets) it’s always been a part of my creative journey. I love that it’s practical yet luxurious, hardwearing yet soft, endlessly versatile and naturally sustainable.
british countryside meets baltic roots
Animals are my biggest inspiration and I believe that was heavily influenced by my childhood. We always had animals around—goats, snakes, turtles, lizards, hamsters, guinea pigs, parrots, canaries, chickens, dogs, cats— you name it, we probably had it at one time!
That connection with animals and the natural world has stayed with me. I try to capture the character of each animal within the design I create.
fun fact—my favourite design
It is so hard to choose favourites but the sheep design will always have my heart. It’s simple but deeply personal. Being the first of J.J. Textile’s designs and featuring in my logo, it reminds me of how it all began.
It also highlights the beautiful connection between the animal and the wool the piece is made from—bringing the story full-circle.
